Cooking on gas

Over the past few months, local company, InSinkErator, have been visiting the Haven every few weeks to cook and serve a hot breakfast to the people coming to our drop-in service. Realising that the kitchen equipment was very old and no longer functioning as intended, Ashley Munden, managing director at InSinkErator, kindly agreed with the team that they would purchase a brand new oven and hob unit for the Haven’s kitchen.

Now installed, the new kitchen equipment is seeing daily use in preparing hot, comforting food for our service users, some of whom may have been rough sleeping.

“We were thrilled when InSinkErator offered to buy a new oven. We love to cook a hot breakfast because it may be the only meal someone has that day.” Debby McKinlay, Haven manager

We couldn’t be more grateful and this upgrade couldn’t have come at a better time either as we are preparing to open the Haven’s doors every evening for Watford’s Winter Shelter (providing 15 additional bed spaces between December and March) where we will also be cooking and serving an evening meal to anyone that comes in for the night.

All we need now is is some elbow grease to get that splashback back to its former glory!
