Afternoon of adrenaline filled karting fun!
At New Hope, we believe that recovery isn’t just about overcoming addiction - it’s about rebuilding confidence, connection, and joy in life. Last week, Cultivate switched that philosophy up a gear with an unforgettable afternoon of karting for service users and staff from New Hope House.
The sound of engines, the smell of rubber, and the thrill of friendly competition set the stage for an afternoon filled with laughter, encouragement, and pure adrenaline at TeamSport Go Karting in Greatham Road, Watford.
A party of five went from New Hope House and for most, it was their first time behind the wheel of a racing kart. Despite that, the excitement was contagious from the moment they arrived.
One participant said: “It was a fantastic event. We all thoroughly enjoyed the racing and we all had a right laugh together.”
Another was even more enthusiastic: “OMG. It was amazeballs. I want to go again, tomorrow.”
A third spoke about it being a cathartic experience which evoked happy childhood memories. “It was the best day out ever and it brought back memories from karting as a kid 30-odd years ago.
“I was nervous at first, but as soon as I accelerated away the memories came flooding back.
“I was buzzing. We all were. I would go again right now, in a heartbeat. I can’t wait to go again.”
The idea of karting as a therapeutic diversion came from an in-house meeting and residents were so enthusiastic, they helped pay for the trip.
Cultivate focuses on helping people in recovery grow in confidence, build positive routines, and reconnect with themselves and others through meaningful activities. Whether it’s gardening, creative workshops, or days out like this, each experience is designed to nurture personal growth and wellbeing beyond the walls of New Hope House.
And the karting did just that, bringing people together, strengthening friendships, and offering a healthy dose of competition and camaraderie. The smiles at the end of the day said it all.
Days like this show that recovery is about rediscovering joy, sharing experiences and being brave enough to step out of comfort zones.
We’re incredibly proud of everyone who took part and grateful to Cultivate for organising such a memorable outing and for the staff at TeamSport Go Karting for being so professional, hospitable and obliging.
