There are lots of ways to help people who are homeless in Watford this Christmas such as buying much-needed items, to donating to our Christmas appeal or purchasing alternative gifts.
VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES
As our needs are constantly changing as we approach Christmas, volunteering opportunities over the Christmas and New Year week can be discussed directly by emailing Nic, our HR & Volunteer Administrator or by calling 01923 210680 and asking for Nic.
We are always in need of regular volunteers however, so if you are interested in supporting New Hope by volunteering at one of our services, please visit our volunteering page to see the latest vacancies.
Christmas Wrap
We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us wrap gifts, collect donations, and share the spirit of Christmas with shoppers while raising vital funds for those in need.
Volunteers will be:
Wrapping Christmas presents
Chatting with shoppers and explaining our cause
Accepting voluntary donations for the gift-wrapping service
Wearing festive attire (optional - but encouraged!) to create a warm holiday atmosphere
All equipment will be provided, and you don’t need to be a gift-wrapping expert - just bring your smile and willingness to help!
We’re asking volunteers to sign up for 2-3 hour shifts between 8.30am and 9pm. Whether you can give a whole day or just a couple of hours, your time will make a difference.
If you'd like to volunteer, please get in touch by emailing Frazer Ansell at fansell@newhope.org.uk.
ALTERNATIVE GIFTS
Struggling to think of present ideas this year? Why not give them a New Hope Alternative Gift - a gift that others don’t have.
Posted items will be printed on high quality cardstock and folded like a greetings card.
PRESENTS FOR RESIDENTS
Donations can be dropped into the Tim Robson Room upstairs at 67 Queens Road, Monday to Friday, 10am to 2pm, or send us a message to arrange another time: rpalmer@newhope.org.uk.
Please just make sure that the chocolates don't contain alcohol.
CHRISTMAS APPEAL
New Hope’s Haven plays a vital role for people experiencing homelessness all year round, but the work is even more crucial during the unforgiving winter months. Providing more than temporary shelter, we provide dignity, compassion, non-judgemental care, and paths out of homelessness.
A donation of £52.72 can provide a person who is homeless in Watford with expert support from our compassionate and kind staff at the Haven as well as a safe place to rest, eat and wash.
CHRISTMAS WISHLIST
We are collecting a range of gifts and essential items to help people who are currently experiencing homelessness, people who are living in New Hope’s accommodation, and individuals and families who are moving into their own homes.
VOUCHERS FOR SUPERMARKETS AND CAFES
We would love to be able to give £10 vouchers so that people have the choice to buy what they need and what they like. This may be a coffee, tea or hot chocolate at Costa Coffee or something from a supermarket, like Tesco or Sainsbury’s.
If this is something, you can help with, please drop vouchers off to the Fundraising and Communications team office at 67 Queens Road (first floor of the charity shop).
Donations to the Haven
We are so grateful for everyone who has donated to the Haven this year, we have received so much! Over the Christmas period, the list of items we need is rapidly changing so please get in touch with the Fundraising office on 01923 227 132 to check what items we currently require.
Please do not bring items to the Haven unless this has been arranged in advance!
If you are thinking of ways to help people experiencing homelessness this winter, please do considering donating to our Christmas appeal, Home for Christmas, from 21st November.
