The Watford Winter Shelter has opened

The Watford Winter Shelter opened on Friday 1 December and so far 11 different people have stayed there.

Our Deputy CEO and Head of Services commented that this year’s shelter is like no other! Based for the first time at the Haven, the winter shelter has a very homely feel. The guests are able to have a hot meal and then sit in the lounge area on comfy chairs watching television, chatting and laughing!

Later in the evening, the guests go upstairs to the sleeping area where they are able to sleep safely under the watchful eyes of our compassionate security staff.

In the morning, the guests are able to access the drop-in at the Haven as usual. Hot breakfasts, showers, clean clothes, laundry facilities and 1-2-1 support is available.

Our hope is that the stability and security of the Watford Winter Shelter will enable people to move on from rough sleeping into stable accommodation.

Thanks go to Watford Borough Council for funding this unique provision and to our 45 volunteers who are giving up their evenings to help provide the hot and healthy meals and creating the friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
