A Different View
At New Hope, we don't see the people we work with as 'homeless people' or 'the homeless'. Each person is a precious individual with their own past, their own present, and their own future. Everyone has a different story, and unique hopes and dreams for the future. Our role is to provide an environment which is safe, loving, homely and purposeful - helping people to thrive. Aiming of course, to help people move into their own accommodation and to live independently.
One of the ways we help people thrive is through a varied range of activities, designed to help grow confidence, self-awareness and hope. We love Watford but sometimes we all need a change of scene!
Our Cultivate team is able to spend time with residents on a one-to-one basis, out and about in the community and sometimes further afield.
These times are more than just a different view; they provide space for people to feel like themselves again, to experience joy, and to build new memories.
A goat at Nathan’s Farm
“Absolutely loved today - was great for the soul to be at the farm to see the animals and interact with them. Even having the goats try to eat my clothes and trainers and even have the chickens and sheep bite my hands.
I came here a bit down but now I feel so happy and maybe search an avenue to maybe apply to various animals farms for volunteering.
Being around animals I like better than surrounded by people.”
ivinghoe Beacon
A man currently living in the Sanctuary Emergency Accommodation recently went for a walk up Ivinghoe Beacon with one of the Cultivate team. He gave the experience '5 stars' and enjoyed “the climbing of one of the Chiltern Hills.”
Good Vibrations in Carpenders Park
Another resident enjoyed a trip to Good Vibrations, a community music jamming group in Carpenders Park. He commented: "I enjoyed the music session today as I learnt to play a few instruments."
Our wrap-around, holistic and individualised care is what makes New Hope, New Hope. The love and practical support we provide for people is only possible because of the generosity of our local community and our supporters.
This work is exceptionally valuable but so difficult to find funding for. If you, your company, or faith group would like to make a donation to help people have these wonderful experiences, please donate today!
